Behavioral Science Experiments

Behavioral Science Experiments
Behavioral science is about the analysis of human and animal behavior in different kinds of environment. Let's take a look at some of the behavioral science experiments that you can conduct.

Behavioral science includes all the branches that investigate the interactions among organisms in the natural world. It consists of the analysis of human and animal behavior through experimentation. Behavioral science is the study of the communication within and in between the organisms that form the social system. Behavioral sciences take into account psychology and neuroscience to analyze the behavior of human beings and animals. Behavioral science experiments are conducted in order to bring out the behavioral patterns in animals or human beings and investigate their responses to stimuli. Their patterns of behavior in a certain kind of environment help the researchers in making inferences about how an organism behaves in a particular type of surrounding. It leads them to make observations and derive conclusions about the patterns in human and animal behavior.

Get some people as volunteers and ask their permission to conduct the experiments on them. Assure them that they are only helping you with your analysis and that the experiments are not going to harm them in any way.

There are some behavioral science experiments that can be used to analyze the effects of colors on psychology. These experiments best suit kids. Place a few similar-sized balls of different colors before the kids. Ask each of them to pick up the balls, which they like most. Observe the most-chosen color. The observation can lead you in knowing the inclination of the subjects of a certain age towards a particular color. You may extend this experiment by conducting it on groups of different people, based on their ages or their backgrounds. Another experiment on color psychology is to put before one of the subjects, write-ups written in two different colors. Keep the content same but vary the color. Ask the subject to read and memorize the content in the write-up. Observe which colored content was memorized well. Note which color has a better impact on a person's brain.

This is to analyze animal behavior. It is about studying the effect of light on worms. Some live worms, soil, starter food and transparencies of different color will serve as your apparatus. Simulate a worm habitat with the help of starter food and soil. Carefully place the worms in the environment created by you. Replace the transparencies, one color at a time and note the changes in the behavior of the worms. This experiment needs proper guidance.

This one is an experiment of analyzing the effect of laughter on an individual. Show the human subjects a hilarious movie, cartoons or give then a funny story of a joke book to read. After this laughter session, check the blood pressure of each of the subjects. Has laughter affected the blood pressure? Note your observations on a number of individuals.

The study of ant behavior in presence of different types of sugars can make another interesting science experiment idea. Simulate a small habitat for ants. Prepare solutions of different kinds of sugars, for example honey, molasses and table sugar. Stir the solutions well and keep the solution beakers set apart in the ant habitat. Carefully observe which sugar solution attracts most of the ants. This experiment requires proper guidance and certain safety precautions need to be taken.

Animal behavior has always been a subject of interest for many. As animals do not communicate the way human beings do, it becomes even more interesting to understand their behavioral patterns. Experiments are conducted on animals with an intent of exploring what the animals have to say! They are a part of the same environment as ours and yet so different. Experiments to analyze their behavior can be devised with creativity of thought. Just make sure that the experiments do not harm these innocent animals in any way.

Human reaction to different styles of music is an interesting behavioral science experiment. This experiment may need a few days of human exposure to a certain style of music. Make each of the subjects listen to a different genre of music. Study the effects of particular kinds of music on the general behavior of the subjects. The experiment can be performed on similar lines but the other way round. Analyze the patterns of behavior in different people and make a note of the kind of music they like or listen to. The study can lead to a statistical analysis of the relation between the favorite style of music of a person and his/her personality.

Human nature and behavior is so complex that it continues to arouse a wide interest in researchers of behavioral science. Environment greatly affects the behavioral patterns in human beings. Answers to the simplest of questions vary from person to person. The reactions to a situation, the responses to stimuli show a wide variety in people of different educational or cultural backgrounds and nature. Pick one of the experiment ideas from those given above or build on one yourself. They are sure to invite the interest of you, the subjects and the audiences.
